Nesta quarta-feira, o juiz Flavio Itabaiana, da 27ª Vara Criminal do Tribunal de Justiça do Rio, condenou a dupla de advogadas a um ano e quatro meses de reclusão, mais 30 dias de detenção pelos crimes de estelionato, falsa comunicação de crime e tentativa de estelionato. No entanto, a pena foi transformada em prestação de serviços comunitários.Além da pena de prestação de serviços comunitários, as inglesas terão de pagar multa de dois salários mínimos por dia, durante 13 dias, no valor total de R$ 12.090.

De acordo com o juiz, se elas concordarem em trabalhar duas horas diárias, o tempo de serviço comunitário cai pela metade.A defesa pode recorrer, mas o advogado das mulheres, Ricardo Tonini, afirmou que ainda vai analisar o caso para tomar uma decisão. Em caso de recurso, cabe à 5ª Câmara Criminal decidir se elas pagarão a pena no Brasil ou na Inglaterra.Na última segunda-feira, Shanti e Rebecca admitiram os crimes em audiência realizada na 27ª Vara Criminal. Ela afirmaram que planejavam prestar queixa de roubo na Delegacia de Atendimento ao Turista (Deat) para, desta forma, ficar com o dinheiro do seguro.Durante a audiência, Shanti afirmou que realmente teve seu laptop roubado durante uma viagem de Foz do Iguaçu, de ônibus, para o Rio. No entanto, a inglesa disse que, ao fazer o registro da ocorrência, acrescentou itens que não haviam sido roubados à lista - como celular e uma câmera digital.
